Ladislav Miko
Ladislav Miko, Ph.D., is a soil biologist, ecologist, environmentalist, and EU official. He lectures on ecology and environmental sciences at Charles University and the University of Antwerp. He graduated in general biology, and later systematic biology and ecology from the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague.
Since 2005, he has held high-level positions in the European Commission. Since 2022, he has been delegated by the European Commission to assist with the preparation and coordination of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the Minister of the Environment and as the Government Commissioner for International Negotiations on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services. Additionally, he served as the Czech Minister of the Environment in 2009 and has been advising Czech President Petr Pavel on environmental and sustainability matters since March 2023.
He is deeply committed to popularizing science and environmental education. As a passionate soil biologist and ecologist, he is an expert on soil mites of the order Oribatida. He actively promotes soil conservation and restoration, as well as modernization and sustainability in agriculture, along with land and nature regeneration in the Czech Republic.
