Landscape of Iceland

Landscape of Iceland, musical composition by Rachel Skleničková, video, 9 min, 44 s, 2023

A spectacular postcard of the fragile ecosystem and natural environment in Iceland. Degraded soils of a volcanic island, glacial rivers, volcanic dust, desert. What does an Icelandic forest look like, signs of ubiquitous erosion, lava covered by moss, sands filled with fescue and lime trees and birch trees - hope? Almost imperceptible at first glance.

The two-year project is accompanied by sound workshops for musicians with visual impairments, realized in cooperation with Maria Čtveráčková and the Synth Library Prague.

Ráchel Skleničková, a graduate of the Jan Deyl Conservatory in Prague, completed her studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with a specialization in piano in 2021. She has participated in numerous musical competitions, including Very Special Arts 2011 international competition for musicians with disabilities in Washington, where she was among the top three winners. In 2016, she performed with the PKF – Prague Philharmonia at the prestigious Prague Spring festival. Currently, she works as a piano instructor at the Jan Deyl Conservatory and pursues a career as a concert artist. Additionally, she collaborates with the Světluška Foundation, and composes music for musicals, audiobooks, and other projects.
