Lucie Lučanská, Scratching the surface
Scratching the surface, pastel on paper, 58×42 cm, 2023
It came to being sort of on the edge of regular life matters, sneaking, bit by bit. To describe it feels wrong, like to misinterpret it. In a mental in-between state, where the motion of the drawing instrument (and occasional finger smudging) is the only thing that can be done to avoid articulate thinking.
Lucie Lučanská earned her Ph.D., specializing in illustration and graphics, from the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague in 2022. She now works as a freelance writer and illustrator with a diverse portfolio, exploring various forms like comics and books, and mediums such as watercolor, airbrush, risograph printing, and more. Her works have been shortlisted for prestigious national awards The Most Beautiful Czech Book and Czech Grand Design.
