Lycaeon, video, 00:09:00, 2022

Lycaeon takes the audience to a mysterious reality reminiscent of dreams, altered consciousness, and fairy tale fantasy. Through a traveler’s perspective, we encounter various entities that lead her on a journey to confront and overcome her inner monster (a werewolf) – a metaphorical representation of autoimmune diseases, where the body destroys itself. This struggle creates a sense of being *other* to oneself, leading to frustration about what or whom to resist in such a battle. The solution is found in striving to accept oneself and maintaining a bittersweet relationship with one’s inner predator, a symbol of one’s own immunity.

Marina Hendrychová, an audiovisual artist and graduate of the Center of Audiovisual Studies at FAMU, is currently studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Her artistic focus lies in exploring new media, mysticism, and speculative fiction. Using CGI, she delves into the landscape of the unconscious and dreams, crafting fantastical entities and stories. In her video essays, she metaphorically explores themes of otherness and physical (in)dispositions and diseases. Aside from moving image creations, she also works with sound and crafts performative instruments.
